Stone wall from native rock

This was a custom stone wall project that I did from native lime, shale and Canadian red rock that the home-owner had on hand. This rock was not manufactured or cut, it was just dug out of the ground by a farmer in the family when clearing fields.

In some places I had to make miniature stone shelves in the wall to comply with the wishes of the home-owner. As a whole, this was not an easy project, as the material was neither manufactured nor pre-cut. All in all, it was about 65 square feet and what with installing cement board, lathe, a scratch coat, gathering the rocks I wanted, fitting them in place and mixing about sixteen 80-pound bags of mortar, it took me about six long days to complete. If I was dealing with manufactured or pre-cut material, my time would have been cut by more than half. All the same, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the home-owner was delighted!

I do not stone wrap houses or chimneys and I won’t hesitate to refer you elsewhere for a project if it is beyond my ability.
